Its objective is to :

• Promote, through an associative commitment, the living and studying conditions of students with disabilities registered at the University of Poitiers
• To create a continuum of actions between secondary and higher education, during the university course and then between higher education and employment
• To set up projects by and for our members.

Its missions :

Personalised support:

• To enable all students, whatever their disability, to benefit from all services, to attend all classes and to participate in all university activities.
• To provide support to compensate for the disability on a daily basis, for administrative procedures, medical appointments, shopping…
• Participate, at the request of the disability service, in the educational adjustments of students’ studies and examinations.

Towards further study :

• Promote the transition between secondary and higher education by setting up the PHARES programme: student tutoring for secondary school students with disabilities. The young people take part in workshops that will help them make the transition to higher education. On the programme: discovery of the campus and university services, exploration of the different branches and professions, workshops on public speaking, self-confidence and independence.

An associative dynamic:

• Create associative activities by and for students in order to improve living together: shared sports (in collaboration with UNSS and SUAPS, table tennis, biathlon…), theatre workshops (for sharing, self-confidence, public speaking…), convivial moments (shared meals, outings…) or associative life projects proposed by association members (creative workshops, for example.)

An information relay:

• Transmit the information necessary for a good understanding of the functioning of the University
• Carry out awareness-raising activities for the university community and our partners.

HandiSup CO organises awareness-raising activities on disability, particularly for the staff of the University of Poitiers and for students. For several years, the association has been carrying out two major awareness-raising actions during the year. The first one takes place within the framework of its partnership with the Master IPHD of Niort (Integration of disabled people and people in difficulty) and takes the form of a day of awareness of disability organised on the Pôle Universitaire Niortais.

Every year, HandiSup also organises the Handinamic Evening, an action to raise awareness of disability in the form of a convivial moment, in order to talk about disability and diversity through short films, sketches, testimonies…

The university libraries also offer:

• Adapted equipment on loan: DAISY readers, reading machine or BRAILLE beach
• Software to facilitate access to the written word (JAWS software, Antidote spell checker, etc.)
• Access to more than 20,000 books in DAISY audio format or in digital Braille via the EOLE digital library thanks to their partnership with the Valentin Haüy association
• Copyrighted works in accessible formats as part of the disability exception to copyright

The Student Social File (DSE) is made up of :

• The application for a grant based on social criteria
• The accommodation allocated by the CROUS

It must be renewed each year from 15 January.

Annual allowances, paid monthly and granted to students in a difficult social situation and who do not meet the conditions for the grant on social criteria.

One-off grants, paid in one go and granted to students with temporary financial difficulties, subject to age (under 35 for those without RQTH).

Accommodation adapted to the CROUS can be offered to you according to your specific needs. It is allocated without any obligation to hold a grant. It is not limited to accommodation accessible to people with limited mobility. For example: accommodation close to your place of study, light signals, accommodation on the ground floor, etc. In order to benefit from it, an information sheet which can be provided by the SHE must be completed each year (in addition to the DSE). You can indicate any adaptations you may need in your accommodation.

They also offer support for student, teaching and administrative mobility (mobility in Europe or outside Europe under the Erasmus programme or bilateral agreements with universities outside Europe).

If you wish to study in another foreign university, do not hesitate to contact the SURIEE or the SHE to benefit from:

• Assistance in case of mobility
• Mobility grants and coverage of additional costs related to mobility abroad for people with disabilities.
• And individualised administrative support for the implementation of your mobility project.

For international students with disabilities arriving at the University of Poitiers, do not hesitate to contact the SHE even before your arrival in Poitiers.

For a few years now, the Disabled Students Department (SHE) and the PédagoLab have been working together to raise awareness and train teachers in inclusive teaching practices.

The first training days offered by PédagoLab were organised in November 2018 and proposed to teachers and teacher-researchers to rethink their learning environment in order to adapt it to all students according to an inclusive approach. Following these activities, the PédagoLab has integrated the pedagogical issue of inclusion in all the training courses it offers to teachers at the University of Poitiers.

Also, in collaboration with other actors of the university, the PédagoLab proposes each year study days related to the problems of inclusion. In May 2019, the PédagoLab in collaboration with the SHE and the service TICE organised a study day by proposing to the teachers present scientific communications and training workshops on the issue of pedagogical differentiation and universal design of learning. This day was also an opportunity to share pedagogical resources between research work carried out in France and others from the Quebec experience.
